Luxury cars hidden in fuel-tampering factory
Economy and Finance Ministry inspectors who went to check on a business east of Attica that was alleged to be illegally tampering with fuel were amazed to also find nine stolen luxury cars on the company’s premises, authorities said yesterday. The ministry’s Special Inspections Service (YEE) raided the firm in Mandra and found 23 fuel tanks and a range of chemicals which were allegedly used to change the color of fuel so that heating oil, which has a low tax rate, could be sold as fuel for vehicles, which is taxed at a much higher rate. On a closer inspection of the site, the inspectors found the nine luxury cars, including Lamborghinis, Bentleys and Ferraris, hidden in a warehouse. Three people working at the site were arrested but authorities were last night looking for the firm’s owner.
