14 youths detained after clashes with police on Saturday; one charged Police on Saturday detained 14 youths believed to have participated in clashes with officers early on Saturday morning outside the Athens University of Economics and Business on central Patission Street. Police released all but one of the youths, who has been charged with civil disobedience and resisting arrest. The clashes on Saturday morning did not result in any injuries or major damage. CRETE FIRE Blaze destroys 16 holiday apartments A fire destroyed 16 holiday apartments close to Iraklion, Crete, on Saturday, but no one was hurt in the incident, according to authorities. Neighbors told authorities that the blaze started after a loud explosion was heard at about 6.45 a.m. Fifteen firefighters using five firetrucks were involved in the operation, which took about three hours, to extinguish the fire. It was unclear what caused the blast. Work site death A 40-year-old laborer from Albania was killed on Saturday after being crushed by a landslide of earth and rubble on a work site on the island of Samos. The father of two, who was not named, had climbed down into a ditch during his shift when the earth around him gave way, police said. The cause of the incident was unclear. Migrants intercepted A total of 28 illegal immigrants were taken to the migrant reception center on Samos over the weekend, Port Authority officials said. Ten of these migrants were discovered on Saturday morning and the other 18 on Friday morning. It is believed that they had traveled by boat from neighboring Turkey.
