Man locks up, bullies neighbor over damp

A 70-year-old Thessaloniki man, who yesterday locked a female resident of his apartment block in his garage and threatened to set himself and her on fire, was stopped before causing any injuries or damage, police said. The man called the 57-year-old woman to his basement garage to show her damp stains on the walls and ceiling which, he claimed, had been caused by water leaking from her apartment above. He is then alleged to have locked her in his garage and kept her there for five hours, threatening to douse them both with petrol and set them alight. An undercover policeman, posing as a television reporter, whose presence the man had allegedly demanded, arrested the man and released the woman unharmed. According to police, the man had taken legal action against other neighbors over his damp claims but a court ruled that they had not been to blame.
