Over 2,000 permits for quarries, mines
Permits issued for quarries and mines total 2,030 for the entire country, according to Development Ministry figures. Of these, 400 are for quarrying inert matter, 1,300 for marble quarries and 200 for industrial ores. Permits have been issued for a further 130 mines. In Attica, there are an estimated 15 quarries operating legally. Attica State Security’s weapons and explosives department says 20 permits have been issued for the transport and use of explosives.
