Bodies found after 30 years
The remains of three American divers who went missing while exploring underwater caves near Athens some 30 years ago have been identified by DNA tests, the US Embassy said yesterday. «The remains recovered in Vouliagmeni in 2006… have been positively identified as those of American citizens Donald Michaud, Jan Granroth and her brother Mark Granroth, all of whom disappeared while diving on September 9, 1978,» the US Embassy said. The remains of US Air Force Sergeant Michaud, along with Airman Jan Granroth and her brother were identified after DNA analysis by the US Department of Defense Armed Forces Medical Examiner. The remains were recovered last year by Greek volunteer divers who had been searching for a Greek photographer who had disappeared at Lake Vouliagmeni, southeast of Athens. Michaud was buried yesterday in Biddeford, Maine, while a funeral service will also be held for the other two on August 4 in Sebeka, Minnesota.
