Two men killed by stag in mating season

Two men have been killed by a deer on a farm in Thebes, northwest of Athens. The animal was apparently protecting two female deer in what is now the mating season, according to authorities. One of the two men, both Pakistani nationals employed at the farm, was attacked by the animal on Friday when he attempted to feed it in a fenced-off area that also held two female deer. The victim, aged 33, was fatally injured and his body was discovered the following morning by a colleague who had gone looking for the missing man. The deer then attacked and fatally injured the second man, aged 35, as he attempted to recover his compatriot’s body. Police said they found traces of blood from the two men on the deer’s horns and said the attacks are likely to be due to the fact that the animals become more aggressive in the mating season.
