Pain relief and palliative care unit

Pain relief and palliative care is the complete and continuous care of patients whose disease is not responding to radical therapeutic treatment. The Pain Relief and Palliative Care Unit, part of Athens University’s School of Medicine, treats patients suffering from the symptoms of chronic disease, not only cancer, but diseases such as osteoporosis, migraines or lupus. The unit aims to help patients achieve the best possible quality of life and provide support for their families. Its staff include specialized healthcare professionals in palliative care (physicians, nurses, psychologists). The director is Kyriaki Mystakidou, associate professor of palliative care. Consultation and treatment is free of charge. The unit is funded by Athens University and private donations, particularly the Jenny Karezi Foundation, set up in memory of the late actress. 27 Corinthias St, 11526 Athens (Ambelokipi), tel 210.770.7669, www.-monadaanakoufisis.gr.
