Athens nightlife burdens customers with overheads
Has it ever occurred to you that you’re paying a fortune for a steak at a restaurant in Kolonaki because the owner has put fancy tiles in the toilets? Or that an expensive bottle of whisky at a nightclub includes the price of the club’s revamped poster on Pireos Street? The cost of such extras that don’t directly concern customers has added considerably to the cost of nightlife in Athens. Soaring rents, goodwill, renovation and staffing expenses, advertising, protection and other forms of under-the-counter payments. As a result, most restaurants and nightclubs operate only Fridays and Saturdays.
