European Union funding…

Afghan immigrants demonstrated outside the Health Ministry in Athens yesterday, demanding political asylum and better living conditions. Some 50 families, many with infants and young children, have entered Greece from Afghanistan but have nowhere to stay. The country’s Social Welfare and Solidarity Service said that it will try to cover their basic accommodation and food needs and also called on the Public Order Ministry to speed up procedures regarding political asylum. Greece receives European Union funding to help finance such needs for migrants.
