Luck runs out for illegal gambling den
Police officers discovered an illegal casino-style operation that boasted 44 computers adapted for use as electronic slot machines in the back of a cafe that they raided near Thessaloniki on Monday. Authorities have been clamping down on illegal gambling over the past few weeks, mostly targeting cafes, but the raid on the village of Oraiokastro proved more fruitful than most searches, as they uncovered a sophisticated setup. Apart from the banks of computers, officers also found six «Las Vegas-type» betting tables for roulette and other games of chance. They also seized 3,000 euros in cash. Another 3,000 euros was also seized at a similar illegal gambling den in the nearby village of Prochoma. Several punters were taken into custody.
