Who is Yiannis Behrakis?

Yiannis Behrakis was born in Athens in 1960. Reuters hired him as an assistant at their Athens bureau in October 1987. At the end of 1988, he was made head of the photography department. For the past 11 years, he has been covering conflicts in the former Yugoslavia and Chechnya, the changes in Eastern Europe, events in the Middle East, famines and civil wars in Africa, major political events and the past three Olympic Games. In London in 1998, he was named the Fuji European Press Photographer of the year and in 1999 he won first prize from the World Press Photo organization in the news category and the Overseas Press Club of America prize. In 2000, he was awarded the Botsis Prize. Behrakis has participated in group photography exhibitions in Greece and abroad and his work has been published in magazines, newspapers and books around the world. He has a 12-year-old son who lives in London.
