Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis leaves the podium following his speech yesterday at Athens’s Pallas Theater in honor of veteran leftist politician Leonidas Kyrkos (pictured in the background). Dozens of high-profile politicians, including the leaders of the main political parties and former premiers Costas Simitis and Constantine Mitsotakis, also attended the event. In his speech, Karamanlis praised Kyrkos, who founded what is now the Coalition for the Radical Left (SYRIZA), for never ‘being led astray by populism and demagoguery.’
