Blacksmith held for murder of young girl
Ioannina police have arrested a 40-year-old metalworker after finding the body of an 11-year-old girl in his store in Ioannina yesterday. Maria Daskalou lived about 20 meters away from Christos Kolovos’s store, where she and other children used to go and play with his dog. When the child failed to return home, police went to search the premises and found Daskalou, who had been strangled with a rope, hidden under a sheet of polyurethane. Kolovos told police he had a «duty to souls» and that he had to «sacrifice a child to save other people.» Police are investigating whether he has links to a cult or is involved in the disappearance of other people in the area. Coroner Theodoros Vouyiouklakis said the child did not appear to have been raped.
