Family row leads to shooting, forest burial

A 42-year-old woman has been charged in Thessaloniki with shooting her husband to death and burying him in a nearby forest after an argument over money, police said yesterday. Authorities said the shooting is believed to have taken place on April 29 at the family home when the couple’s two children, aged 13 and 5, and a niece were outside in the garden. The woman, who had separated from her 43-year-old husband, allegedly shot him with a hunting rifle at point-blank range. Immediately after the shooting, the woman fled the house with her children, telling them their father would stay at the house. She returned the following day to bury the body with the help of a male friend. Police tracked down the suspects by monitoring their phone calls.
