Development in round numbers
Some 3,000 houses were demolished in the earthquake of September 1986. About 150 buildings were listed for preservation and restored; the ratios of built area to building plots have been reduced for new buildings. More than 150 hectares were given to the municipality to create new roads, squares and parks after the earthquake. Five million euros is the budget for rebuilding the old hospital which will house the new city hall.
