Bakery that traded in heroin is closed down
The owner of a bakery near the port of Piraeus who is alleged to have been selling his customers heroin along with bread and cakes was arrested yesterday and his store closed down «for the public good.» Prefectural officials closed down the bakery in Kaminia after an inspection by police revealed that the baker had been sneaking little packages of heroin into customer’s bags. It was unclear whether the drugs had been concealed inside the loaves of bread or dropped into the bags along with other products. The bakery was closed down «to protect public health and ensure citizens’ safety,» according to a statement issued by the office of Piraeus Prefect Yiannis Michas. Police did not clarify how long the baker is alleged to have been dealing in heroin or whether other drugs were also being traded over the counter.
