Cyprus teacher, 25, shot dead by her sister

A woman in Cyprus alleged to have shot dead her 25-year-old sister in the kitchen of their Nicosia home on Friday was being questioned by police on the island yesterday. Teacher Eleni Zari was shot while making coffee by the family’s middle sibling, according to police, who said that Zari’s eldest sister had been present when the two shots were fired. The eldest sister said no argument had preceded the attack. The alleged attacker had been estranged from her family for years but occasionally visited her relatives to provoke arguments, police learned. The suspect is alleged to have threatened to kill her younger sister in the past and to poison her other family members, police said without determining what the suspect’s motive might have been. A psychiatrist has deemed that the suspect is capable of undergoing trial. It was unclear whether she would be charged with manslaughter or murder.
