Nigerian couple held for credit card scam

A 22-year-old Nigerian is believed to have swindled credit card holders out of 100,000 euros by using card details supplied to him by his 23-year-old girlfriend, an assistant in a tourist shop in Plaka, to make online purchases. Police arrested the 22-year-old at a ticket agency in central Athens where he had gone to collect 23 tickets for the forthcoming Madonna concert that he reportedly ordered online. Officers said the total value of the tickets exceeded 3,000 euros. The suspect is also believed to have booked several flights and purchased electronic appliances. Police arrested the suspect’s girlfriend, also Nigerian, who is believed to have been sending him the credit card details of customers visiting the store where she worked via mobile text messages. Four of the duped credit card holders had been traced by late yesterday.
