OA staff…

Employees of Olympic Airlines light flares during a demonstration in central Athens yesterday to protest the government’s plans to sell off the debt-ridden national carrier. It was the latest in a series of public displays of opposition by OA staff who do not want the company to pass into private hands. The government plans to privatize the airline by the end of next year. Most of the 8,100 employees will be given jobs in other areas of the public sector but unionists argue that they will be asked to do work for which they have not been trained.
