PAO recovers, PAOK falters

Panathinaikos recovered from its Champions League loss to Anorthosis midweek to notch its third win in four Super League games yesterday, as its rivals Olympiakos and AEK faced each other late last night. The Greens beat visiting Levadiakos 2-0 thanks to two first-half goals by Ante Rukavina and Dimitris Salpigidis. League leader PAOK dropped two points in Crete in Saturday’s goalless draw with Ergotelis but stayed a point above Xanthi, which got the same result at Asteras Tripolis yesterday. Larissa caught up with Xanthi following the most entertaining match of the season so far, after beating OFI 4-3 at home. The hosts had to come from 3-1 down and scored the winner in injury time courtesy of Nikos Dabizas. In the other games, Aris left it to the fifth minute of extra time to beat Iraklis 1-0, while Panserraikos stunned hosts Thrasyvoulos (0-1) with an 88th-minute goal. Late yesterday, Panthrakikos was hosting Panionios.
