Two missing in chopper crash

The fate of the two crew members of a military helicopter believed to have crashed in Kymi, northern Evia, was unclear late last night. Police and the fire service launched a search for the two army officers after the Apache helicopter disappeared off the radar shortly after 8 p.m. The helicopter had been engaged in a reconnaissance exercise with another helicopter when it went missing. The crew members of the other aircraft subsequently reported hearing a series of explosions and seeing what appeared to be flaming wreckage on the ground. Police and firefighters continued their ground search late into the night, while two Super Puma rescue helicopters and a C-130 military transport aircraft scoured the broader area. There had been no sign of the two officers by late last night. The two Apaches had taken off from Tanagra’s military base to assess an anti-aircraft missile unit in the area of Kymi, state channel ERT’s website reported.
