Lover ‘helped’ spouse killer

Police are looking for a 24-year-old man in Thessaloniki who is suspected of being an accomplice in the admitted killing by a 57-year-old woman of her husband last week, officers said yesterday. The death of the 64-year-old man was reported on January 3. His wife said that he had died suddenly – of natural causes. But during questioning, the 57-year-old began to give contradictory versions of events before admitting that she had smothered her husband. The woman said that the couple had suffered longstanding relationship and financial problems which led to her killing the 64-year-old. Forensic tests suggest that the man was given sleeping pills before he was smothered with a pillow. The couple was not named. The 24-year-old, who was allegedly the woman’s lover, is alleged to have known about her plans to kill her husband before his death but failed to stop her. Police said that there is already a warrant out for the unnamed suspect’s arrest since he has been convicted of carrying out a robbery.
