It has to remain alive and vibrant

Of the three faculties on Patission Street, only the Architecture School conducts all its activities in the complex. Apart from examinations in the Ginis Building on Patission, the Civil Engineering School uses the Zografou campus and most of the Fine Arts School has shifted to Pireos Street. Renovation work is under way, and the Averoff Building will be ready by spring. The problem is how the educational process can coexist with certain social phenomena. For me, the challenge is for the NTUA to remain a vibrant educational institution in the center of Athens. I don’t think that moving the faculties elsewhere will solve any problems. I readily admit that the quality of space in the Architecture School is uneven; some rooms are in excellent shape while some are a mess. On watch On security, the public may be unaware that there are three eight-hour shifts of two staff members. When the pressure is on, there is not much that the guards can do. But their presence may act as a deterrent. Luckily the prytaneum has remained untouched six years after its renovation. The recent sit-ins respected it and the laboratories. Most of the damage done was to the Ginis Building.
