Cocaine haul linked to runaway top model

A 32-year-old male model alleged to have been the final intended recipient of 4 kilos of Colombian cocaine smuggled into Greece last week was arrested yesterday at Sofia airport in Bulgaria, where he had been due to board a plane to Dubai with someone else’s passport. The 32-year-old, an up-and-coming name on the show-business scene, had been sought since last Thursday when his identity was given to police by two men who had collected the drugs from the offices of a courier company in Halkidiki, northern Greece. Officers said a forged document with the package described its contents as computer accessories. The street value of the drugs is believed to exceed 400,000 euros. Police have applied for the model’s extradition and are seeking to determine whether the passport he was carrying was given to him to help him flee the country or was stolen.
