Danuta Hubner…

Danuta Hubner, the European commissioner for regional policy, (second from right) was taken on a tour of the ancient Theater of Dodoni in Epirus, northwestern Greece, yesterday. Hubner also got a dose of modern Greek culture during a visit to the nearby village of Karvounari in Thesprotia, when local residents staged a protest against plans to build a landfill there. Signs in Polish, Hubner’s native language, read ‘Save us.’ The commissioner received applause, but the car carrying regional officials was besieged by angry residents who also lay down on the road to prevent it from leaving.
