Plant flowers and shrubs…
Residents of all ages took advantage of yesterday’s good weather to plant flowers and shrubs on the site of an old parking lot in their neighborhood in Exarchia, central Athens. The site belongs to the Technical Chamber of Greece (TEE), which in the early 1990s had asked City Hall for the go-ahead to transform the area into a park. Nearly 20 years later, citizens have taken it upon themselves to create a patch of green on the abandoned site. Two weeks ago, some 500 locals got to work, using drills to break up the site’s concrete floor and covering the area with earth. Apart from Strefi Hill, the site is Exarchia’s only green space.
