Roma fiesta turns ugly as tempers flare

Police yesterday issued arrest warrants for three people linked to a violent brawl that broke out on Wednesday night during a party at a Roma settlement in Megara, west of Athens, and led to the fatal knifing of a 50-year-old woman and the injury of a 37-year-old man. The alleged perpetrators include the 16-year-old nephew of the female victim whom he is alleged to have stabbed in the stomach with a knife following a dispute about family finances. Another of the suspects is an 18-year-old youth, believed to have hurt the 37-year-old to whom he is related. Police are also seeking a 41-year-old woman whose relationship to the victims was not clear yesterday. Meanwhile a 65-year-old man and a 67-year-old woman who had been at the party were being questioned along with the 37-year-old man, who was released from hospital after receiving treatment for stab wounds.
