Journalist Iason Athanasiadis…

British-Greek journalist Iason Athanasiadis smiles following a meeting with Foreign Minister Dora Bakoyannis at the ministry in Athens. Athanasiadis, who was released from a Tehran jail on Sunday, claimed to have been kept in isolation by prison authorities for nearly three weeks. The 30-year-old freelance reporter for The Washington Times said Iranian authorities showed him respect, ‘particularly when they started treating me as a foreign journalist and not as a spy.’ Athanasiadis said he was questioned frequently but not otherwise mistreated. He thanked Bakoyannis for the efforts she and other diplomats made to secure his release.
