Authorities have made one of the biggest drug seizures ever in Greece after raiding a cargo ship in Piraeus aboard which were hidden 447 kilos of cocaine from Latin America. The Finance Ministry’s Special Investigations Service said that five suspects had also been arrested. The raid was carried out last month after a tip-off from the US Drug Enforcement Administration. The cocaine was hidden in the secret compartments of a container filled with scrap aluminum that was due to be offloaded in Bulgaria. The drug was from Bolivia, officials said. Authorities on Tuesday arrested four Greeks (two men and two women) and a Bulgarian man in Athens and Thessaloniki. Officials said that this was the largest amount of drugs that had ever been found in a shipping container in Greece and one of the biggest such finds in Europe.
