Youth critical after being shot seven times
The 16-year-old son of a convenience store owner in Aspropyrgos, northwestern Attica, was in hospital in critical condition yesterday after being shot seven times during a raid on the store by two armed assailants late on Sunday. Initial reports on Sunday night suggested that the owner of the store had been shot during the raid but it emerged yesterday that the robbers shot the youth after he refused to hand over the store’s takings. Doctors at Athens’s Aghia Sofia Children’s Hospital said yesterday that the youth was in a very serious condition but gave no further details. Meanwhile police were still seeking the two robbers late last night. The pair were spotted fleeing the scene on a motorcycle on Sunday night by a police patrol car which chased them. A shootout ensued and the fugitives’ motorbike skidded on the wet road before they fled on foot.
