Prime Minister George Papandreou met…
Prime Minister George Papandreou (l) and his Serbian counterpart Mirko Cvetkovic met in Belgrade yesterday for talks that focused on bilateral ties, Kosovo and Greece’s ongoing dispute with the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) about the latter’s name. Papandreou said he wanted Greece to play a leading role in promoting the European Union membership of Serbia and other Western Balkan states. In an interview with local newspaper Novosti, Papandreou said Athens was waiting for Skopje to ‘meet us halfway’ on name talks. ‘Otherwise we will just keep recycling the same problem,’ he said.
