Athens cyclists take protests to a new level

Cyclists raise their bicycles during a protest march through central Athens yesterday. The protesters are calling on authorities to designate special lanes for cyclists so that they are segregated from the capital’s heavy traffic. A scheme heralded by the previous conservative government foresaw the creation of two bicycle lanes in Athens by the end of 2010.
