Migrant knifings leave one dead, one critical

Police yesterday were investigating two knifings – one fatal – of immigrants in rundown districts near central Athens. One of the attacks, in the district of Kolonos, was made on an employee of the Pakistani Embassy. The victim was found bleeding in the street by police who had been passing by in a patrol car. A search of the man’s clothes turned up documents indicating that he was an embassy employee. He was transferred to the hospital but died before doctors could operate. Meanwhile, a Bangladeshi national was in serious condition yesterday after unidentified assailants knifed him in the street in Aghios Panteleimonas, another rundown district with a burgeoning population of migrants. The assailants robbed the migrant of 600 euros and fled. The migrant was taken to the hospital for surgery and was said to be in critical but stable condition yesterday.
