Witness says officer shot at Grigoropoulos

A second witness to the shooting of teenager Alexis Grigoropoulos in Exarchia in December 2008 told a court in Amfissa yesterday that he saw one of the two policemen on trial pull out his gun and fire directly at a group of youngsters following a verbal exchange. Police special guard Epaminondas Korkoneas denies murdering the 15-year-old and claims he fired warning shots into the air, one of which ricocheted and hit Grigoropoulos in the heart. However, 33-year-old Vangelis Zervas is the second witness whose testimony contradicts this version of events. Zervas said that he was sitting at the Milos cafe in the bohemian neighborhood of Exarchia when he saw a patrol car reverse and two policemen get out. They approached a group of youths that had gathered on a pedestrianized area of Tzavella Street and soon afterward two shots were fired, the witness said.
