Ex-drug squad officer nabbed for huge haul

Police in Attica yesterday detained four Greeks, including a 47-year-old former drugs squad officer, after finding nearly 10 kilograms of heroin and cocaine in their homes in the southern suburbs of Athens. Following two weeks of observation, police caught the 47-year-old after posing as potential buyers for 1 kilogram of cocaine, which had been priced at 50,000 euros. A subsequent search on the homes of the former policeman and the other three suspects – the owner of a car showroom and two of his employees – turned up 8.7 kilograms of heroin, according to police. The confiscated drugs are believed to have a minimum street value of 1 million euros. Police believe the suspects may have been working with accomplices in Albania.
