Lignite power plant near Kozani closes
One of the smog-spewing towers of a lignite-powered electricity plant in Ptolemaida, in the northern prefecture of Kozani, is seen yesterday. Environment Minister Tina Birbili last week ordered the closure of the plant, which has been producing electricity for more than 50 years. It was one of the most polluting power plants in Greece.
