Attack on mosque

A Muslim man enters a makeshift mosque in Aghios Panteleimonas, near central Athens, which was attacked by vandals yesterday. The building’s windows were smashed but nobody was injured in the raid, thought to have been carried out by far-right extremists. A nearby cafe where immigrants gather was also attacked and the name of the extreme nationalist party Chryssi Avgi (Golden Dawn) was spray-painted on the shutters of a shop. Aghios Panteleimonas has become a point of conflict over the last few years as residents and extremists react to the area’s growing migrant population.
