A 54-year-old beekeeper was detained on arson charges yesterday after a fire broke out Thursday on a patch of land in the northern Athens suburb of Politeia where he keeps his beehives, before spreading to an adjacent forest. The local fire service managed to douse the blaze late on Thursday night with the help of water-dropping airplanes. According to firemen, the beekeeper, who was not named, had been doing some kind of maintenance work on the plot of land which led to the fire.
