2004 organizers to get overdue state funding
The government has failed to provide 88 million euros to Athens 2004, the organizers of the Olympic Games, creating serious problems for their operations. The issue was raised by Athens 2004 President Gianna Angelopoulos-Daskalaki with Prime Minister Costas Simitis. The two met yesterday to discuss finances and operational security plans. Simitis called on Deputy Finance Minister Giorgos Floridis to deliver the sum in a few days’ time. Angelopoulos-Daskalaki also presented the organizers’ security plans to Simitis and informed him the tenders would take place soon. Yesterday, two Olympic projects and an infrastructure project were given the go-ahead by the Council of State. The court rejected petitions against the building of a media village at Maroussi, the widening of the road to Marathon and the construction of a tramway.
