Bill Clinton due on Samos for conference
Former US President Bill Clinton, the EU’s foreign policy chief, Javier Solana, and Turkey’s economy minister, Kemal Dervis, were expected on the island of Samos yesterday to take part in a conference being chaired by Foreign Minister George Papandreou. «Globalization and the Future of Europe» is organized by the Institute for Strategic and Development Studies ISTAME-Andreas Papandreou, which is named after the foreign minister’s father. Foreign ministers from several countries are expected to attend, as well as personalities from Central and Eastern Europe and representatives of think tanks and companies involved in research on a global scale, the Athens News Agency reported. Clinton visited Athens as president briefly in November 1999. Leftist and anarchist demonstrators caused extensive damage in violent protests in central Athens.
