Blanket ban on smoking in public places

A blanket ban on smoking in public places, aimed at bringing Greece’s legislation into line with EU laws, comes into effect today. The ban will apply to bars, cafes and restaurants, as well as offices and all modes of public transport. Prime Minister George Papandreou hailed the reform yesterday but concerns remain about its implementation.
