Reds rise to top of table

Olympiakos is top of the Super League after a comfortable 3-0 win at home over Asteras Tripolis on Saturday, as rival and reigning champion Panathinaikos earned a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Panionios on the same night. The Reds have nine points from four games. The Greens are just a point behind but will be without winger Sotiris Ninis for their next game after he picked up a red card. Iraklis, which had been top, remained on seven points after suffering its first defeat yesterday, 1-0 at home to Kavala. Another Thessaloniki side, PAOK also lost 1-0 at Xanthi but rival Aris beat Ergotelis by the same score. The day’s shock came in central Greece, where Olympiakos Volou beat AEK 3-1, prompting the resignation of its coach Dusan Bajevic. In the weekend’s other games, Larissa drew 1-1 with Kerkyra and Atromitos beat Panserraikos 2-1.
