Group claims letter bombs

The guerrilla group Conspiracy of the Cells of Fire yesterday claimed responsibility for a series of parcel bombs that were sent to foreign leaders and embassies in Athens earlier this month. In a letter to the Athens branch of the anti-capitalist news network Indymedia, two suspected members of the group arrested on the first day of the letter bomb campaign claimed «the dispatch of parcel bombs to French President Nicolas Sarkozy, the headquarters of the International Court of Justice in The Hague and the embassies of Belgium and Mexico in Athens.» There is no mention of the other 10 letter bombs, most of which were intercepted by police. Only two devices detonated, resulting in minor injuries to a courier firm employee. Gerasimos Tsakalos, 24, and Panayiotis Argyrou, 22, said «we stand by our activities and those we will continue to stage from now on.» They said they would still promote «armed violence, guerrilla warfare and revolution» from jail.
