Relatives of the 39 employees who died in the Ricomex factory during the earthquake that struck Athens on September 7, 1999, held a memorial service at the site of the factory on Saturday. The relatives of six of the victims are seeking a total of 11.7 million euros in compensation from the factory owners. Overall, 143 people were killed. Police released part of the statement of one woman, 30-year-old D. Ajdini, who allegedly sold her baby. «I was received in a small Thessaloniki hospital by a doctor around 50 years old, with blond hair, who spoke some Albanian,» the statement said. «Without any preliminary examination, he made me enter the operating room straight away and I had a cesarean. Afterward I was treated at the clinic worse than a dog.»
