Athens firemen on standby at the flood-prone Kifissos River observe the water level yesterday from a bridge over Pireos Street. Despite the morning’s heavy rainfall, the river did not break its banks. Thessaloniki’s fire brigade received dozens of calls to homes and stores that had flooded following heavy rain in the country’s north.
