Srtict security measures in Frankfurt
A security official scans an Orthodox priest’s hat for dangerous devices at yesterday’s inauguration of the 53rd Frankfurt Book Fair, where Greece is the guest of honor. Speaking at the opening ceremony, Greek President Costis Stephanopoulos said 41 Greek books had been translated into German for the fair, in which 6,661 exhibitors from 105 countries are participating. Referring to the September 11 terrorist attacks, he spoke of ‘the need for a dialogue between civilizations, and a return to the values of humanity and humanism.’ Earlier, police arrested 156 Moroccan illegal immigrants who disembarked early in the morning from an unknown vessel at the mouth of the Geropotamos River, close to Rethymnon.
