The ancient site of Brauron, east of Athens, lies half-submerged in muddy water yesterday in the aftermath of Thursday’s rainstorms. Yesterday, Public Works Minister Vasso Papandreou initiated disciplinary action against ministry engineers supervising anti-flooding works along the Kifissos River – as well as the private firm handling the project – after the river burst its banks on Thursday and flooded surrounding districts.
