PLOUMBIDIS: The preliminary investigation into the activities of Nikolaos Ploumbidis, the arrested communist, is continuing. When it is completed, Ploumbidis and the woman arrested with him, Rena Hanou, will be referred to the commissioner of the military court on charges of espionage. Ploumbidis will be questioned by several magistrates. Yesterday, on the orders of a court doctor, Ploumbidis, who is suffering from tuberculosis and acute nephritis, was taken to the Sotiria prison sanatorium. Before he was transferred there, he was asked (…) if he wanted to make any statement regarding the charges made against him by (the secretary-general of the Communist Party (KKE) Central Committee) Nikos Zachariadis. Ploumbidis replied that before he made any statement he wanted to be informed of the evidence on which Zachariadis had based his expulsion from the Communist Party. KANELLOPOULOS: The composition of the new government of Field Marshal Alexandros Papagos will be complete as of this coming Thursday following the swearing-in of Mr Panayiotis Kanellopoulos as minister for defense and Mr L. Evtaxias as deputy minister for finance. MELINA: The actress Melina Mercouri is is continuing her successful season at the Antoine theater in Paris.
