KOUN AND USA: On Saturday, Karolos Koun, the founder of the Art Theater and director of the National Theater, arrived from the United States. Mr Koun had stayed in the USA for about three months as a guest of the American government and was particularly enthusiastic about the theater and the entertainment business generally in the USA. He met and made friends with the famous American writers Thornton Wilder, Tennessee Williams and Arthur Miller, whose plays he has staged in Greece and who have promised him their future works. THE ‘ORPHEUS’ BASEMENT: Our capital city has acquired a new theater, situated in the basement of the Orpheus cinema. The new theater will house a company that includes Alexis Damianos, Aspasia Papathanassiou and other young actors. PAFSANIAS LYKOUREZOS: A committee of women belonging to organizations that support communists exiled on the island of Aghios Efstratios has asked that steps be taken to improve the prisoners’ living conditions. The minister (Mr Pafsanias Lykourezos) told the committee in reply that the exiles were enjoying good conditions and that their food on the whole was satisfactory. Nevertheless, he added, he would hand down instructions that any irregularity should be corrected.
