‘THE EXILE’S SHIRT’: Following a special order by the criminal prosecutor Mr Tzavellas, Athens general security has begun a preliminary investigation into the members of the board of the self-styled Panhellenic Union of Families of Political Exiles and Prisoners and of the leader of the United Democratic Left (EDA), Mr Ioannis Passalidis, a 72-year-old doctor and former parliamentary deputy. Passalidis and the union board members, in an announcement in the newspaper Avgi, had asked the public to send in money, clothing and food to the newspaper during the Christmas season, to be sent on to political prisoners and those in internal exile, that is, to communists. (…) It was ascertained that many people sent items of clothing and food, which were forwarded by post to the communist exiles and prisoners. (…) Charges have been pressed against Mr Passalidis and the union board members. P. TETSIS: The executive committee of the State Scholarship Foundation has approved the results of the foreign scholarship application procedures.
